ELF Special Community Day

When: Saturday 13 June 2009
Time: 10.00am – 12.30pm
Where: Whittlesea Community Activity Centre, 56 – 61 Laurel St

Come and enjoy the fun! Dress up as your favourite book character or wear your favourite hat.

Recovery through Reading and Fun will be the focus of this community day especially for the preschoolers in the Shires of Mitchell, Murrindindi and Whittlesea in the aftermath of Black Saturday.

Children and their families are invited to attend the day to share in the love of reading and play together with the local community.

Story books will come to life as volunteers and kids alike transform into characters of all shapes and sizes. Together stories will be shared from the pages of our favourite books.

The Lions Club of Yarra will be there with tongs in hand, sizzling the sausages for all while ‘Barry Boost’ will be behind the blender serving up a delicious variety of healthy delights courtesy of Boost Juice.

On top of filling their tummies, the kids can enjoy a mix of fun activities including face painting and dress-ups. There will also be an opportunity for everyone, including the big kids, to get their hands dirty with play-dough, paint and paste.

This event, hosted by Berry Street together with Kindergarten Parents Victoria and Playgroup Victoria, incorporates elements of Berry Street’s ELF program. The philosophy of ELF is that Early Learning is Fun while promoting the connection parents, carers and the community can have with their children through story and play – and this is particularly important in times of recovery from crisis.

Berry Street believes that all children should have a good childhood – growing up in families and communities where they feel safe, nurtured and have hope for the future.
